

About Bilal
Dr. Bilal Badruddin is an accomplished higher education leader with extensive experience advancing mission-driven work across alumni engagement, annual giving, student affairs, and organizational governance.
Born and raised in New Jersey, he is the son of Pakistani immigrants whose values around education, service, and community continue to shape his leadership. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Advertising Research from Temple University, where he helped charter the Omicron Chapter of Delta Epsilon Psi Fraternity, Inc. and was actively involved in Residential Life and the Temple University Bhangra dance team.
Dr. Badruddin holds a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Loyola University Chicago and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies from Howard University, where he was a member of the inaugural doctoral cohort. While completing his doctorate, he served as Chief of Staff and Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations.
He currently serves as Director of Alumni Relations at Howard University, where he leads engagement strategy for more than 110,000 alumni. His work has resulted in a 3.3 percent increase in alumni participation, a 26 percent increase in undergraduate alumni donors, and a 28 percent increase in overall alumni donors. Under his leadership, alumni engagement rates exceed CASE peers by 10 percent and national averages by more than 30 percent.
Dr. Badruddin has held leadership roles at Eastern Washington University and Colgate University, with significant experience overseeing fraternity and sorority life, residential education, student conduct, and leadership development. Nationally, he has served as Vice President of External Relations and National President of Delta Epsilon Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he led efforts to make the organization the first trans*-inclusive APIDA fraternity and successfully closed all underground chapters. He currently serves as Chair of the organization’s Board of Directors.
He has also served as Chair of the National APIDA Panhellenic Association, becoming the first South Asian leader to hold the position. From 2022 to 2025, he was a Virtual Scholar with the Timothy J. Piazza Center for Fraternity and Sorority Research and Reform at Penn State University, and since 2023, he has served as Assistant Editor of the Journal of Sorority and Fraternity Life Research and Practice.
